Horn enclosures

The aim of this page is to provide a comprehensive overview of various (not only) horn speaker designs including a description of their characteristics.

All speaker designs listed here are for non-commercial use only

Voigt pipe

The Voigt pipe was built in 1934 and patented by Paul G. A. H. Voigt. It is also called the Wave Quarter. Its resonance frequency should be 1/4 wavelength resonant frequency of the speaker.

Back loaded horn

It uses the energy of the back of the membrane. The expanding ear canal performs acoustic transformer function, where it transfers energy to the small hard surfaces of the speaker membrane into a large area of air when the duct is ejected.
